Cardiovascular age — sometimes called vascular age — measures how old your heart and blood vessels function compared to the population average for your age. It is entirely possible to be 45 years old chronologically and have the vascular health of a 60-year-old — or to be 60 with the arterial function of someone 15 years younger. A 50-year-old with uncontrolled hypertension, elevated LDL, pre-diabetes, and a sedentary lifestyle may carry the cardiac risk of a 70-year-old. An optimized 60-year-old with excellent metrics may carry the risk of someone in their mid-40s. These are not abstract statistics — they translate directly into real-world event rates over time.

Why the Gap Matters More Than the Number

The difference between your chronological age and your cardiovascular age — what cardiologists call the "age gap" — directly measures how much your lifestyle, genetics, and medical management have accelerated or protected your vascular system.
